Define the real care route and approval purpose

Use the maintenance method expected in service and state what the validation must confirm.

Identify whether garments will be home washed, professionally laundered or managed under another agreed route. Record washing, drying and handling conditions rather than using the word washable by itself.

Agree the number of conditioning cycles and the buyer-defined acceptance criteria for the actual product and market. Do not treat one care route or limit as universal across PCM, knitted and powered garments.

Measure and inspect before and after conditioning

Use the same identified sample, measurement points and inspection method at both stages.

Record initial dimensions and appearance, then repeat the agreed checks after conditioning. Review dimensional change, twisting, puckering, colour appearance, surface condition and seam security where relevant.

Condition samples consistently before comparison and document units, measurement method and tolerances. A photograph alone does not replace controlled measurement records.

Review the complete garment and product system

Care can affect construction, trims, labels, fit and function as well as the base fabric.

Inspect necklines, cuffs, hems, flat seams, reinforcements, prints, embroidery, labels and removable components against the approved sample. Recheck fit and layering if dimensional or hand-feel changes could affect use.

For PCM or heated products, agree which product-specific checks are required after conditioning. Powered components, connectors and batteries require their own approved care and safety route; do not infer compliance from a garment wash alone.

Lock evidence and care instructions for production

The approved result should become a controlled reference for labels, inspections and repeat orders.

Retain the sample identity, care procedure, before-and-after records, observations and approval owner. Align the sewn-in care label and buyer instructions with the tested route before bulk label production.
